More bad news is emerging from Ubisoft, though not yet confirmed, at the same time of the announcement that XDefiant will be closing on 3rd June 2025 after what has been a poor year for game releases from the company in terms of oversell sales expectations.
The two studios to be closed by Ubisoft are reported to be Ubisoft San Francisco and Ubisoft Osaka while a third studio, Ubisoft Australia located in Sydney, will be ramping down the production team. In total, Ubisoft would be making 277 redundancies. Although redundancies is never easy for those losing their jobs, it is likely to be particularly at this time of year.
Unfortunately mass layoffs is not something that has only been happening at Ubisoft as we have witnessed over the past several years. Many large publishers such as Microsoft, Sony, Electronic Arts, Activision Take Two Interactive and Embracer Group have contributed to the loss of thousands over the past two years, and it’s likely to be a trend that continues into the new year.
