Support For Suicide Squad Ends

Its no secret that even before it launched, the latest release from Rocksteady Studios has been a huge disappointment for both the developers and publisher. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was the first none Batman focused game from Rocksteady Studios since Urban Chaos: Riot Response in 2006 for both Xbox and PlayStation 2.

Rocksteady Studios became known for the highly successful Batman Arkham trilogy of games for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Rumours around a Suicide Squad game began shortly after Batman: Arkham Knight released in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC though originally not by Rocksteady Studios but instead by Warner Bros Montreal whom had previously released Batman: Arkham Origins in 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It is the only game in the Batman Arkham series to not see a port or remaster to next generation consoles. This incarnation of Suicide Squad was later revealed to be cancelled.

It wouldn’t be until 22nd August 2020 when Rocksteady Studios finally revealed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Development on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been speculated to be deeply problematic for a variety of reasons, and the eventual release on 2nd February 2024 for PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S as well as PC was ultimately met with poor review scores and underwhelming sales.

There have been no official sales figures produced by Warner Bros Discovery suggesting incredibly dire numbers, though it is known that the overall failures of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League made a $200 million loss for Warner Bros Discovery. Unfortunately these results led to severe redundancies at Rocksteady Studios in September 2024, adding to the ongoing downsizing we are experiencing across the industry for the past two years.

It is therefore of little surprise that less than a year after release, Rocksteady Studios have announced that Season 4 for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be the final DLC though servers are not being shut down. However, there is some surprising news to come from this as it is also now known that an offline mode has been released. This essentially means that should the servers be closed, the game including all DLC will be fully playable.
