Games We Want on the Nintendo Switch 2: Red Dead Redemption 2

As we approach the end of 2024, the biggest question we have on our minds is when will Nintendo reveal the successor console to their massively popular Switch console? It is almost certain that outside of some bizarre left field business strategy, Nintendo will be revealing the Switch 2, between the beginning of January and end of March 2025.

Rumours have suggested that what Nintendo will be launching will be somewhere in the realms of a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro in terms of the hardware specifications though potentially more RAM and even according to some rumours, has the potential for some kind of ray tracing based on the Nvidia chipset being used.

What we really want to know is the games that will be launching alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 console, be it first party or third party. We have a few ideas however as to what we would like to see at some point throughout its lifespan.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2

On the face of it, asking for a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 should be a no brainer. We already know Rockstar Games has supported the Nintendo Switch with LA Noire, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy: Definitive Edition and Red Dead Redemption with the first and latter being revealed at Nintendo Directs and subsequently marketed as games for the Nintendo Switch, despite also releasing on other platforms.

However, all three Rockstar Games releases on the Nintendo Switch were done as part of a wider port or remaster that came to all systems at the same time. There is a good chance that unless a remaster is in the works for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles, the Switch 2 won’t see Red Dead Redemption 2 make its way over.

It is also worth mentioning that GTA V was heavily expected to make its way over onto the Nintendo Switch, but it never happened. The reason for never seeing GTA V is more likely to do with the online component which would require additional work to port onto the hardware used in the Nintendo Switch. However, as Red Dead Redemption 2 also has an online component, this raises questions about whether it would again be worth the cost and work to make the Switch 2 port, even if outsourced as if often the case.

To this date, Red Dead Redemption 2 is easily one of, if not the most gorgeous looking games even on last generation consoles and it is certainly one of the best crafted worlds with perhaps a little too much attention to detail, though not in a negative way. Anyone remember the horse testicles comment?

Regardless of reasons why we may not see a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Switch 2, we do think there is a substantial number of players who have either not played the game, or most likely, want to double dip to be able to play on the go. With a console that is at least, able to rival that of the previous console generation but hopefully have a little more power under the hood, Red Dead Redemption 2 would be a perfect fit for the Switch 2.
