We are fast approaching a brand new year and we already know there are to be plenty of great games launching for all major platforms. Perhaps the biggest of the these games that we currently know about is GTA VI, the newest entry in the hugely influential and successful Grand Theft Auto franchise that began life on the original PlayStation console and PC.
It has been almost an entire year ago since the first trailer for GTA VI was revealed, and at the time everyone was expecting a 2024 release. However, as things stand all we know is that unless there’s an unexpected delay, GTA VI is releasing at some point during 2025. We also have no official announcement of which platforms GTA VI will be releasing on as neither trailer or press releases have as yet stated anything.
We can assume that both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X and S consoles. It could also launch on PC, but Rockstar are known for releasing the PC port one to two years later. On an extreme outside chance with Nintendo yet to reveal the Switch successor, it is potentially possible that GTA VI will be launching for the next Nintendo console but judging by what is widely rumoured to be the hardware, it’s not likely to ever be ported.
There is a lot about GTA VI that isn’t known yet, but from what is shown in the first trailer we do know it is set in a modern day Vice City. In GTA V, there were three protagonists that could be switched between throughout the game. In GTA VI we have seen that there are two protagonists, but this time for the first time ever, one is a female.
The island of Vice City is as you’d perhaps expect, much larger and far denser thanks to what can obviously be achieved with modern hardware. We expect to see some Easter eggs hinting at the original Vice City game and a radio station dedicated to 80s music. Maybe even the occasional Vice City celebrity popping up. We will likely find out soon.
One of the big things GTA V took advantage of making fun of was social media which at the time was just starting to really grow astronomically. Social media has only continued to grow and change, especially with everyone having constant access to the internet on smartphones. We saw a glimpse of this through a TikTok type app in the first trailer. We expect plenty more to be available.
Outside of the main storyline and side missions, there is always a lot to do in Grand Theft Auto games. For instance, golf was one such activity you could enjoy in GTA V. The ability to purchase businesses and apartments is another big factor that’s always played a part in the 3D Grand Theft Auto games so we expect to continue seeing this, as well as garages to store cars. There will be a lot more activities that can be done in GTA VI that hasn’t been done in previous games.
