One of the big games coming to Xbox Series X and S consoles as well as PC in 2025 will be the reboot of Fable, 21 years after the original game was released.
The original Fable game released for the Xbox on 14th September 2004 by Big Blue Box, a satellite studio of Lionhead Studios and its success spawned two successors launching on 21st October 2008 and 26th October 2010 for the Xbox 360. A game in the series called Fable Legends was seemingly in development hell and was subsequently cancelled by Microsoft in 2016 and Lionhead Studios was controversially closed down.
The Fable reboot was first revealed in the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020 during the lead up to the launch of the Xbox Series X and S consoles later that year. At the time, nothing much was really revealed about what Fable will be like, but we did finally see official confirmation Fable was being developed by a new team at Playground Games, a studio owned by Microsoft.
As of time of writing, there has been two further trailers for Fable, the first was showcased on 11th June 2023 and the latest on 9th June 2024, but we still have plenty of questions regarding the reboot and are expecting a big in depth gameplay trailer to be releasing soon as the marketing hype begins to ramp up. We do know that Eidos Montreal was also on board as a support studio for Fable as was revealed on 9th June 2024.
Fable has a lot to live up to from the original three games, and we have a lot of questions that we hope get answered in a trailer soon. This will be the first game undertaken by Playground Games that is not a racing title so that also has us intrigued by how well they handle the transition, even though this is not the same team that is behind Forza Horizon.
