Rumours Suggest Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is Getting a Remake

The whole question about whether remakes and remasters is something we should be encouraging and buying into is a very opinionated and sometimes controversial topic. The other question is what constitutes a remake and a remaster? Is The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition a remake or a remaster? What about The Last of Us Part I on the PlayStation 5? Or Crash Bandicoot N’ Sane Trilogy?

There is no doubt about it, we have witnessed plenty of both remakes and remasters this past decade and there seems to be no signs of it slowing down. The latest rumour is surrounding the potential release of a remake of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion which originally released on Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 on 20th March 2006.

With no signs of the next instalment in the Elder Scrolls franchise for a number of years, given Starfield only released in 2023, a remake of Oblivion would be a great way to keep the franchise in the limelight and hopefully generate a significant amount of revenue to reinvest into the next game.

What we would like to see in a remake of Oblivion would be to update many of the mechanics to that of Skyrim, the game that saw the series truly become the big franchise it has become.

It seems that if rumours are true, this remake of Oblivion is being outsourced and likely to be to some degree developed using Unreal Engine. We hope that if it’s all true, an announcement will be coming soon.
