Rumours are flaring up across the internet regarding a potential earlier than expected reveal for the Nintendo Switch successor, commonly referred to as the Switch 2 until officially revealed.
The claims that Nintendo are rushing to reveal the Switch 2 by mid January, ahead of the original planned date which has never been made public outside of being before 31st March 2025, is due to the sheer volume of daily alleged leaks of what the Switch 2 will look like. These leaks are all coming from various third party accessories companies and so likely aren’t going to be perfect in the designs they are using. However it is possible that Nintendo are hedging their bets something bigger is to be leaked other than just the designs, and are trying to get ahead with a sooner rather than later reveal.
One way or another, we will find out exactly what Nintendo has in store in no longer than three months. In the meantime, we will continue to speculate what games could find their way onto the Nintendo Switch successor console.
EA STAR WARS HEDI: FALLEN ORDER AND SURVIVOR
Electronic Arts has had a very mixed result when it comes to the games they released using the Star Wars license. Initially having a ten year exclusivity deal, EA seemingly struggled to get the most out of what is arguably the height of the Star Wars brand power since the sequel trilogy was first announced.
Two of the biggest releases from EA during the ten year exclusivity deal with Star Wars was the reboot Battlefront games, with the sequel receiving a significant backlash in the run up to launch that likely affected sales. The other two big Star Wars games came out after the deal had ended.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was developed by Respawn Entertainment and released on 15th November 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with Panic Button handling ports for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S which released on 11th June 2021. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was once again developed by Respawn Entertainment and released on 28th April 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and as well as PC. It was later ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a release date of 17th September 2024.
It was heavily rumoured prior to the reveal of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that the game was heading to the Nintendo Switch successor alongside the first game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. However the rumoured delay in the Switch 2 is the reason we saw ports to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One appear, as these were likely to release at the same time as the Switch 2 ports.
If this were to be true, it stands to reason that unless something has changed behind the scenes at Respawn Entertainment and/or EA, which is always a possibility, we will still see these two Star Wars games make their way over to the Switch 2 within the first year.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has had somewhat a rocky port for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One which perhaps isn’t too surprising given the struggles with current generation consoles, and the fact it’s a port to systems that though released in 2023, likely had the majority of the chipsets finalised two to three years prior. The Nintendo Switch successor though will on the face of it, be somewhere in the realms of a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro power wise, the newer more advanced chipsets and rumoured 12GB RAM should hopefully help elevate some of these issues.
We would not be surprised if we saw both games shown either during the Switch 2 reveal or by EA separately. Whatever happens, once Nintendo reveals the Switch successor, the floodgates will open and every third party developer and publisher will begin announcing their games for the platform. Though some will be held back for developer events and conferences etc.
