Nintendo has rarely been a big part of The Game Awards, though they have revealed the occasional new game at the event such as Bayonetta 3 during 2017.
This year is a little different for Nintendo as a whole as it is widely known in the gaming space that this is the final holiday for the Nintendo Switch being the sole console on the market from Nintendo. We will be seeing the reveal for the Switch successor by the end of Nintendo’s financial year which ends 31st March 2025 and at that point we expect to also see the first releases to be coming to the Switch successor.
At The Game Awards 2024, Nintendo released a short trailer showcasing some third party releases coming to the Nintendo Switch and then a message:
Thank you for joining us now and into the future.
This message seems to heavily hint at the future being the Nintendo successor console, though evidently a lot of third party support will still be coming to the Nintendo Switch throughout 2025 and likely beyond due to the 146 million units sold.
