We have received yet another trailer for the forthcoming Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 game collection that is releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S as well as PC on 10th December 2024.
The original Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver launched on 16th August 1999 for the PlayStation, 8th September 1999 for PC and rather surprisingly did get a release on the Sega Dreamcast on 27th December 2000. The sequel, Soul Reaver 2 didn’t come to Dreamcast and instead became a PlayStation 2 exclusive, releasing 30th October 2001 with a PC release on 19th November 2001.
Aspyr have had a really rocky road with their remasters as we have witnessed with the excellent Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection but also the disastrous release of the much hyped Star Wars: Battlefront collection. We hope that the Soul Reaver 1 & 2 collection is of the high quality of the Tomb Raider remaster collection but until it releases, we are remaining skeptical.
However, we should point out that there are a couple of nice surprise extras that come with this collection. For starters, there’s to be a collection of sections of the original games that were initially cut prior to release. There is also the option to view the scripts for both the Soul Reaver games. This isn’t perhaps the most interesting feature to the majority of gamers, but it’s at least something better than the general artwork galleries that are usually included. One final feature is a collection of brand new maps which were designed by Aspyr in collaboration with artists of the Crystal Dynamics artists as well as the Legacy of Kain Fandom leaders and key community members.
