It is no secret that as a whole, the PlayStation State of Play series of pre-recorded video game announcements and updates haven’t been the greatest for a while, although a couple of reveals in the last State of Play made it worth the while. One of those reveals was indeed Astro Bot.
It seems that PlayStation fans are getting a little excited at the prospect that Sony are about to do another State of Play but that is really just based on a PlayStation 5 advertisement trying to push people into buying the consoles this holiday season. There really won’t be anything hidden in an advertisement for something like a State of Play. If there was, then Sony’s marketing team is playing some real 4D chess with the fan base.
The tease that everyone is so excited about is the date 3rd December 2024 that appears on the flight screen. It really is nothing more than Sony recognising the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand. Remember, it makes no sense to go to so much trouble to deliberately tease a State of Play announcement in an advertisement aimed at the casual market.
In all likelihood, anything Sony wants to announce will be held for Geoff Keighley’s advertising bonanza The Game Awards. You may very well remember the controversy aimed at The Game Awards in 2023 over the rush to get winners off stage during their acceptance speeches.
