For some, the year 2020 seems like a lifetime ago but for others it seems like only yesterday. The year 2020 was a very strange time but it also saw the build up and release of the current generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft in the form of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
However, as you’d expect with the big hype before a new console launches, both Sony and Microsoft had plenty of games to showcase in the hopes that the power of the new machines and the gameplay on show will be enough to get you on board day one. Sometimes these games never make it to market or are stuck in development hell and slip into obscurity. One such game that has yet to see the light of day is Capcom’s Pragmata which was showcased in Sony’s June 2020 State of Play.
There really isn’t too much to go on regarding the story and world of Pragmata outside the trailers and the blurb from the PlayStation website:
“Lose yourself in a brand-new sci-fi action adventure game from Capcom, the creators of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.
Pragmata will present players with a profound story and setting, as cutting edge visuals take full advantage of next-generation platform features – all made possible by the power of the PlayStation® 5 console.”
The last trailer which was released back in June 2023, ends with a message stating:
“It is with a heavy heart that we must further postpone the release of Pragmata.
Our team is currently hard at work making the best game that we possibly can, but we need more time.
We will continue to do our best to ensure that the final product is one that is worthy of your patience.
Thank you for your continued support.
The Pragmata Development Team”
This statement sounds like it could be a long wait until we hear more about Pragmata, and it does bring up the question as to whether there are difficulties behind the scene as Capcom would likely be pushing most teams to focus on guaranteed successes such as Resident Evil and Monster Hunter franchises.
Whatever ever the situation, we look forward to hopefully seeing more in the coming years but ideally before next generation becomes a thing.
