There has always been a solid dose of movie adaptations of video games, and the general rule of thumb historically has been to expect the worst.
However, the past decade has seen a number of movie adaptations based on high profile gaming franchises see both critical and commercial success with the likes of Uncharted, Gran Tourismo doing great for Sony, two hugely successful Sonic movies for Sega and last year saw The Super Mario Movie hit all kinds of records. We now know that this will be a universe Nintendo will be diving deeper into for future instalments. We also know Nintendo have greenlit a live action movie based on The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Now it’s time for Minecraft to make the leap into movie territory with a mix between live action and CGI which has received very polarising opinions across the internet. The lack of blocky protagonist characters, instead of merely superimposing them into the world that kind of resembles the Minecraft game, is the biggest issue many have openly expressed so far.
A new trailer has now dropped for Minecraft which provides some insight into the background of Steve, portrayed by Jack Black.
