The Sega Legacy IP Reboot

Remember how every year Sega kept saying something stupid like how they listened to their fans and they recognised that there is a legit desire to see reboots or remakes or something to do with the classic IP that Sega has a full on warehouse of? And remember how every year, it turned out what Sega actually meant was that they only heard people wanted new Sonic and they still couldn’t get that right?

It turns out Sega have finally seen that huge pile of yearly begging for them to bring back the old IP. I imagine it helped that the Streets of Rage 4 was a huge success, but still… it’s nice to know after 22 years leaving the hardware industry, that Sega finally released that maybe there’s something in this idea of resurrecting IP.

There has been the odd time here and there when Sega tried to revive something everyone wants. Remember that awful Xbox 360/PS3 Golden Axe game? No? Good.

The teaser trailer that Sega just randomly dropped during the Geoff Keighley show which apparently was something to do awards or something? Anyway, after that really long intro of watching 2 people who look way too young to ever have played Sega games in the 90s, we got to see short clips of some of these games.

So far, Sega have confirmed that Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi and Streets of Rage. More are to be on the way although these five titles will be released at some point over the next five years, so it’s gonna be a while forgetting that Sega ever announced anything.

Anyway, today Sega provided a tiny bit of new details about what these five games are… and it’s really not worth doing an article about. But it’s such an easy and lazy article to write up I decided to do so anyway. I mean, I wasted so much time talking crap and I haven’t even started saying what Sega stated in their press release. Well, that’s below:

CRAZY TAXI

STREETS OF RAGE: REVOLUTION

Take control of one of the ex-officers and make the city a place where people no longer have to walk the ‘Streets of Rage’.

So there you have it. Crap. Nothing in there was worth Sega putting out. Other than the fact they did. And then I wrote an article.
