Games to Play on Boxing Day

Christmas is over which is really bizarre because most people spend two months building up hype to the single day where all anyone cares about are presents and pigs in blankets. What a waste. Apart from the pigs in blankets, those should be a national meal all year round.

So anyway, let’s look at games to play on Boxing Day because more lists are always fun and easy to do.

BOXING DAY GAME 1: FIENDISH FREDDY’S BIG TOP O’ FUN

This is a real bizarre niche game most won’t even remember. I never actually owned this game, but I remember playing it on a MS DOS PC back in the day, though I wish I knew it was also on the Amiga.

This is such a weird mini game collection set in a circus. Yeah, that’s all it is. Just trying to compete in comical events that I’m sure are slightly dangerous. But it’s good ole fun.

BOXING DAY GAME 2: BRIAN THE LION

Another game most won’t know about, especially as it only released on the Amiga. No idea why it didn’t come out on console or IBM PC back in the day. But it’s a game I have a real soft spot for. Brian the Lion is the first game by Reflections who went onto create Driver. Its also the first game I officially owned myself for the Amiga. It’s not the greatest platformer but I like it. And that’s all that matters because it’s my list. I have it on the Amiga 500 Mini where I am able to play the AGA version.

BOXING DAY GAME 3: TOMB RAIDER (2013 REBOOT)

Yeah screw the original games because the controls are just insanely shit by todays standards. But after the success of what Uncharted did to the genre, Crystal Dynamics decided to try and do the same with Tomb Raider. And from that we got this amazing reboot. And yes, I do believe Tomb Raider is far better than Uncharted.

Originally on the Xbox 360/PS3 generation, it got a remaster as did most games, for the Xbox One and PS4. I hope it comes to the next Switch along with the other two games in the reboot because then I’ll be buying it again to play when I’m bored on the move.

BOXING DAY GAME 4: ROBOCOP

No don’t worry this isn’t about the game from Ocean Software, this is about the new game that just came out a few months back. No one thought this game would turn out any good, just like any licensed game. But then it released and it’s just so much better than anyone ever thought. And if you disagree, I don’t care. You have to play all the games on this list today. Even if you already played it. Play them all again in a single day.

BOXING DAY GAME 5: SUPER MARIO RPG

The original SNES game never released in Europe but this amazing remake is now on the Switch. It’s originally by Square so you know it’s going to be amazing, and now the remake took everything that created a great game and just made it better through new graphics and music and allows you to just play it on the go.

I only just got this game so not too far into it but I’m loving it. Also, it’s rather short from what I have heard so it’s perfect for Boxing Day. Just twenty hours approximately which gives you four more hours to play through every other game on this list.

BOXING DAY GAME 6: MONKEY ISLAND

Two of the best point and click adventure games are the first two Monkey Island games so play them both along with everything else on this list today. There’s nothing really to say. It’s forking Monkey Island!!!

BOXING DAY GAME 7: SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY

Super Mario Odyssey is one of my favourite games to ever release on the Switch. I know a lot of people don’t think it’s that great, but then they’re also upset it isn’t a third entry in the Galaxy series which is just not that good. Sorry but that’s the truth.

No, it’s definitely not as good as Super Mario 64. But it’s still a great game and it was created with a deliberate focus on nostalgia that us old people will understand. Like a whole mini city based around Donkey Kong, the mayor being Pauline who is the original Princess you save in the Donkey Kong arcade game.

Yes you are still saving Peach from Bowser but who cares. It’s still an amazing game and that’s all that matters.

BOXING DAY GAME 8: INDIANA JONES AND THE FATE OF ATLANTIS

Another awesome LucasArt point and click adventure and is based on the disused plot of what should have been the forth Indiana Jones film. It is one of the best games to come from LucasArt and I think the last game they released that also came to the Amiga.

I freaking love this game, not as much as the Monkey Island games, but holy crap every single person must play this game. Just like every game on this list. All today.

BOXING DAY GAME 9: GTA: VICE CITY

THIS IS THE BEST GRAND THEFT AUTO EVER! Don’t listen to morons who say IV or III are better just like they did for best games of all time according to Metacritic. Vice City has everything. It’s set in the 1980s, has that amazing visuals that represent the era and cartoon approach of the series perfectly and of course, that soundtrack is amazing.

Oh and yes, it’s heavily inspired by one of the best films ever… Scarface. By Scarface I mean the remake, although I do own the original on blu-ray and it’s awesome. So both films are awesome and Vice City is awesome. There’s no excuse to not play this game.

BOXING DAY GAME 10: BLAST CORPS

It’s Blast Corps. That is all you need to know. Go. Play. This. Game. And then. Go. Play. All. The. Other. Games. On. This. List. Today. Without. Fail.
