Continuing the tradition of looking in the large barrel of classic retro games and seeing so much greatness and deciding to remaster them for easy money, Embracer Group stuck their arm in and right straight to the classics. Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III. That first game that came first to Sega Saturn – ha you thought it was a PS1 exclusive! Tomb Raider II which came to the PS1 and Tomb Raider III that also came to the PS1. I mean they also came to the PC too, but we are talking about how they came to the PS1 except Tomb Raider that came to the Sega Saturn first. That means the three games came to PS1. That’s three games that were on PS1.
To make it all the more exciting, Tomb Raider II is the sequel to Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider III is the sequel to Tomb Raider II which is a sequel to Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider III is also therefore a sequel to Tomb Raider. What I don’t understand is why the original games and not the remaster/reboot from the PS2 generation?
Anyway, Aspyr who are handling this remaster have made some announcements on what features the trilogy will have. Let’s have a look:
You can change between original giant pixels and modern graphics at any time you want during gameplay.
You can play either like a psychopath or use a more modern control scheme similar to that used in Tomb Raider Anniversary.
Bosses now have health bars so you now know whether you are about to die just before the boss gets that final inch of health left and leaves you screaming in rage.
Items will now be futuristic 3D. Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!
If you are real sad, you can now take lots of photos.
Baked lighting and real lighting.
New models of Lara Croft.
The ability to move Lara Croft.
You can lock that suspicious perverted butler in the freezer until he’s dead. Hopefully. He deserves to freeze for making those noises around you. Probably watches you sleep too.
The ability to shoot guns.
There is sound effects and music.
When you click on that icon from the console home screen, it will automatically start up the remaster trilogy.
You can press buttons and move the analogue stick to make things happen.
There is a menu screen.
Lara Croft can die.
So much to look forward to.
